The Etate
Northwest of Thessaloniki, in the mountainous Goumenissa, our winery started operating in 1984 and for many years it was the only winery in the area.
Our History
Goumenissa is the centre of a region that has been famous for centuries for its wines. Since the early years of the Ottoman occupation, the local inhabitants cultivated the Xinomavro and Negoska grape varieties on the slopes of Mount Paikos and on the low hills surrounding the town.
Our privately owned vineyard, cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, was planted in 1991. Today, the Filyria estate is a model vineyard for the region and the Greek area.
Varietal composition
Most of it is planted with Xinomavro and Negosca while there are other varieties under experimentation such as Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon which have shown great adaptability and with proper management excellent results.
