The Etate
Our Winery in Santorini, with its iconic white dome, opened in 1989. Since then, it has been at the forefront of shaping the island's wine industry.
History
In the mid 80’s, we began our active involvement with the vineyard of Santorini. With the insightful guidance of an experienced Greek wine maker, we identified an important vineyard zone with great potential and significant prospects for the production of top-quality wines.
The privately owned vineyard, Selladia with an area of about 60 acres, was planted for the first time in 1992 and the planting was completed two years later.
Today, it is open to the public and offers to its visitors comprehensive tour services combined with the magical aura of Santorini. It promises to be a unique wine experience, bathed in the Aegean light.
Varietal composition
The varieties we chose were mainly the local white varieties, such as Assyrtiko, Athiri and Aydani, but also some other varieties that are grown experimentally, while the production is monitored.
In the past, our vineyard has also functioned as an “experimental vineyard” since many varieties such as Mavrotragano, Assyrtiko and Aidani were first cultivated in a small part of the vineyard in order to observe their acclimatization in the area and to test the products they can produce.
The Estate
Privately-owned Selladia vineyard spans across an area of 60 acres. It was first planted in 1992 and the process was completed two years later. The estate is situated on the southern, "warm" part of the island. It is known for using the sparse planting method, with about 250 plants per hectare. Characteristic is the sparse planting of the estate, about 250 plants per acre.
